I recorded another track on the portable lunchbox #eurorack #modular #synth yesterday. It is called "Apple Pi a la Mode", to keep with the lunchbox / food stuff theme. Plus given yesterday's date...

Wanted to use the #roland #cr78 for some percussions, but that's not super portable (and runs on 110V, not battery power), so I ended up capturing a few loops on a TC Electronic Ditto+ looper pedal. Created a playlist for these tracks. #music #analog #modularsynth #loops.

Then, we moved to an exploration of the musical instruments with #MIDI output.

This option seemed to be a great compromise between [relatively] clean sonic data output while keeping the fragile layers of ethnographic context [relatively] intact.

Since the RomChords project focuses primarily on harmonic accompaniments for guitar and accordion, we worked with a #Roland FR-1x #MidiAccordion and a #Jamstik #MidiGuitar.

@superflippy @futurebird for me one of the main differentiator of hardware synths and software is the human interface. At a minimum, I can adjust two knobs at a time. With sliders, many more. With software with a mouse... one, and not in a satisfying way.

Pictured is a pg1000 programmer for a Roland D50/D550 synth. Digital synth, but much more satisfying with the physical interface.

Week 31 submission for Loop In A Minute (#LIAM):

This week I took the Roland SH-4d outside into the garden and created this little loop. All parts that you hear are coming from this portable little synth and unofficial groovebox.

It was an interesting experience being outside, away from the office/studio where I spend most of my time. I have to do that again.

okay so this is badass

one of my most cherished and irreplaceable retrocomputing devices is my peerless Roland SC-55.

while the MT-32 has been emulated quite well, the SC-55 always lagged behind in emulation - most attempts at it sounded pretty terrible, even using good soundfonts.

(and hauling around my SC-55 + midi & 3.5mm & usb cables just to play games in dosbox was painful)

in comes Nuked-SC55: it is a chip-level emulation project that just *nails* it.

it took about 30 seconds to build with cmake. i'm now going to try integrating it with dosbox, so i can finally play 90s DOS general midi games! (ultima viii pagan, here i come)

demo songs with the LCD screen (which is also accurately emulated!)
