I’ve been desperately trying to assemble all the items I have already cut the felt for ages ago. Once that’s done, I will need to remake some keychains. THEN, I will finally be able to start working on my little magnets!
I swear I am so excited to drop them but my part time job takes up most of my mornings and it’s slowing me down so much :blobugh:

Happy to finally reveal one of the official product picture for my upcoming magnets! 🪲

Before releasing them, I will create listings with 0 stock, that way if you want one (or several) you can activate the notification, this will give me an idea of how many to make for the release! ✨

✨ BUG MAGNETS ✨

4/5 of the first handmade felt magnet prototypes have been assembled and I am so excited to make the last one!
These will be available through two listings: beetles and moths, allowing you to get them individually, or as a set.
I’m really really proud of them and I really can’t wait to release them into the world! 🪲 🦋

The other thing I've been doing, either up at launch while "parawaiting" for good weather or after I've landed while I'm waiting for the retrieve vehicle, is to snap photos for iNaturalist. I recently started using my mostly-dormant account for fun. I've probably got 60 or 70 different species observations to upload, mostly plants. And this is just what are probably considered common weeds around roadsides and farm fields. I got 20 new plant species this afternoon alone, plus this really cool beetle and spider.

A very, very strange looking spider sitting on a small green flower stalk. The entire top of the spider is a white circular hard disk with some small black spots. Arrayed horizontally around the white disc are six black triangular spikes sticking out. The head and front feet are black and can be seen poking out from under its hard shell. It's as if a round white turtle and a black spider had a love child about 3/8 of an inch across.

Well, word from today's lab meeting is thanks to the executive orders being issued, two of our projects for this year (working with NPS and National Forests) are now on indefinite hold. Grants were awarded, funding set, but it's all walked back now. This is how far these EO's are already reaching via "trickle-down effect" just four days in. We always figured we would get caught up in it; how swiftly it has happened is a bit shocking.

All we do is study caves and wildlife. Something that is generally very bipartisan - protection of and access to wild spaces. Feel free to use this as a talking point with those you know. You are more likely to sway people with common ground basis, than with arguing facts.

A small cave adapted beetle, Ptomaphagus carvernicola. It has the shape of a moon sliver and is black and brown, blending well to the mud coated rock it is on.

For the final #InsertAnInvert2024 prompt “diving” and for #invertefest this is a hand-printed of the Paroster pallescens beetle, surface diving water beetle from Australia. It is printed on 8” x 8” Japanese paper.

Paroster is a genus of beetles in the family Dytiscidae. I really liked the look of this beetle and the amazing diversity of this genus of Australian diving beetles!

My linocut print “Diving Beetle Paroster pallescens” shows the beetle viewed from above on an 8” x 8” white Japanese washi paper. It’s an oblong beetle with pale yellow limbs and antennae, black eyes, and a muddy green elytra. The most striking feature is the long hairs radiating out from the back legs like extravagant eyelashes.
