In early April, The Guardian revealed that the Ministry of Justice is developing a “murder prevention” system. The tool aims to identify individuals judged to be at high risk of committing lethal violence, based on data drawn from multiple agencies—social care, policing, education. The government has framed the project as a research initiative to improve risk assessments and early intervention. But its underlying logic marks a shift toward ‘precrime’—managing individuals on the basis of what they might do, rather than what they’ve done."

The Starlink service has been critical for the Ukrainian military, but owner Elon Musk is far from a reliable partner. @timkmak’s Counteroffensive looks at the search for alternatives. There are currently four in the frame: Luxembourg's SES, Spain's Hisdesat, Britain's Viasat, and France's Eutelsat/OneWeb. “We can successfully defend the country without Starlink. We did it at the very beginning of the full-scale invasion, and we can do it now. It is more difficult, more expensive… but it is possible,” says Volodymyr Stepanets, who works with a group that deals with the repair and procurement of Starlink terminals.
