The Windows lock-screen on my work laptop was advertising Microsoft's Agents. I was pretty sure the technology wasn't there yet (thanks to @davidgerard 's work) so I tried it. I opened Copilot Studio and I asked it to create an agent that looks up train schedules and prices for me. Copilot told me "yes, I can". You won't believe what happened next... "… would love to switch to another platform but whenever I try KDE or GNOME my experience is always ‘not quite as bad as Windows’, …"

For more than two decades, I was a huge fan of Apple's OS. Yosemite was the killer, I switched to PC-BSD.

Now, preparing to switch from FreeBSD to Linux:

– whilst I do miss the excellent aspects of Mac OS X, the worst aspects are so bad that I'll never switch back

– I can barely tolerate Microsoft's desktop environment, and that's not because I'm anti-Microsoft

– KDE Plasma ticks more boxes than any other DE.

YMMV :-)

Campaign: Tell Microsoft to stop partnering with Israel’s genocide in Gaza

"Microsoft continues to claim that it “adheres to the highest standards of business practices” despite three investigations that expose the company’s entrenched partnership with Israel’s military operations.

"Israel’s military used Microsoft’s cloud platform (Azure) & ... engineering support to carry out its genocidal assaults on Gaza"

actionnetwork.orgTell Microsoft To Stop Partnering With Israel's GenocideBREAKING: Microsoft is a core partner in Israel’s AI-powered massacres of Palestinians. Leaked documents published on Jan. 23, 2025, expose the deep partnership between Israel’s military operations and Microsoft.  Take action: mpowerchange.org/microsoft We now know that Israel’s military used Microsoft’s cloud platform (Azure), a “suite of communications and messaging systems,” millions of dollars of engineering support, and more. Take action with us — and support the Microsoft workers organizing to cut ties with the IDF. Israel’s so-called “demands of the war” on Gaza called for outside tech support. To that end, Israel’s military operational capabilities were “upgraded” during the current war in Gaza thanks to the “wonderful world of cloud providers” that enabled “very significant operational effectiveness.” The sanitized language of “operational effectiveness” is a weak cover for Israel’s AI-powered war machine, unleashed on Gaza for 15 months. Israel’s AI program “has been a behind-the-scenes force accelerating the death toll in Gaza, which has claimed 45,000 lives….” Microsoft has lofty public-facing AI goals. These include AI for Humanitarian Action: “aimed at harnessing the power of AI to support disaster response and recovery, help ensure the safety and wellbeing of children around the world, protect refugees and displaced people, and promote respect for human rights.” The Jan. 23rd exposé shows that Microsoft has caused the opposite of their stated aims, and its actions of support for Israel accelerated an AI-powered genocide. Microsoft supported what the International Criminal Court sees as “plausible genocide. Microsoft should be held accountable.

Hope a good company picks up these two good, justice seeking, people.

““Mustafa, shame on you,” Aboussad said as she walked toward the stage at the event in Redmond, Washington. “You claim that you care for using AI for good, but Microsoft sells AI weapons to the Israeli military. Fifty thousand people have died, and Microsoft powers this genocide in our region.”

Aboussad also called Suleyman a “war profiteer.”

“You have blood on your hands,” she said before being swiftly escorted out. “All of Microsoft has blood on its hands.”

So it does look like the TypeScript language server has a limit of 4MB source size where it disables type checking (and actually shows an erroneous error stating that exports that exist in the file do not exist) for files that are imported but not open in the current workspace/session.

Still not sure if this is documented anywhere or not (haven’t been able to find it, if it is).

99.99999% of the time, unless you’re doing niche stuff like I am, you won’t run into this.

Workaround: should you have such a large file, e.g., with a large generated object, try and refactor to split it up into multiple files and rejoin it a separate file. The actual object size/memory usage isn’t the issue, it’s the file size.

I ran into an issue while creating and exporting a constant object that holds component versions of the ~1,500 icons in the Phorsphor icons library and I’ve created the simple reproduction below: D...

"Something went wrong. Let's try again." is what Microsoft Teams tells me most times I try to use its built-in calendar to join a meeting.

And by trying to follow the link in the calendar invitation instead, it now tells me to "You don’t have the permission to change the meeting settings.”

Restarting Teams fixes the problem, but every interaction I have with Teams is marinated in this kind of bug-ridden friction.

“The first interruption Friday came from [Ibtihal] Aboussad, who stood up during #Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman’s speech.”

“Shortly after the interruption, Aboussad sent an email, … to Suleyman and other Microsoft executives”

“[quote] ‘I did not sign up to write code that violates human rights’”

“At a separate Microsoft event with executives Friday, [Vaniya] Agrawal interrupted a speech by [CEO Satya] Nadella with a similar protest and also sent an email to executives afterward.”

“A Microsoft spokesperson said Friday that the company is committed to adhering to the highest standards of business practices.

“‘We provide many avenues for all voices to be heard. Importantly, we ask that this be done in a way that does not cause a business disruption. If that happens, we ask participants to relocate,’ the spokesperson said.”

Microsoft's Emergency Alert: 240M Windows Users Should Stop Using Their PCs.
Microsoft is preparing millions of PC owners for the unprecedented device cliff edge that hits on October 14, when support for Windows 10 ends.

According to Windows Latest, the company is advising users to discontinue the use of certain devices and to “recycle Windows 10 PCs” that are unable to upgrade to Windows 11.

Sunny GardenCornOnTheGob (@goblingua@sunny.garden)Attached: 1 image Microsoft thinks you should recycle pcs that can't be upgraded to windows 11... Please do not do this. Try linux or give them to someone else who will, or donate them to charitable organizations. Goblins need spare computers everywhere! #question Can we have a #hashtag on here for people who wish to discard perfectly good computers, so other people on here who are less fortunate can get them and use linux or something? Any opinions on a best hashtag for that? *edit @generationX@mstdn.social mentioned a hashtag, #computertruhe (which is a group or the german equivalent to this paying it forward of computers or related parts, and is active on mastodon!) This may translate to #computerchest and is the best lead on a relevant hashtag for this purpose so far! *edit edit A lot of passion for this! :) Other suggestions for hashtags now include #takemytech to be established for this purpose!(@Cyclist@mastodon.scot ) #retux (for games?) possibly #upcycling @PCsfueralle@wien.rocks for Austria, like computertruhe for DE I will try to clean up these edits as I understand better.

Nowa wersja Quake II działa w rozdzielczości 640 x 360 pikseli i została wytrenowana na danych gry zebranych w zaledwie tydzień – to ogromny postęp w porównaniu do siedmiu lat potrzebnych wcześniejszym modelom. Muse, opracowany we współpracy z zespołem Ninja Theory, generuje w czasie rzeczywistym świat gry, grafikę i mechaniki rozgrywki, co wyróżnia go na tle tradycyjnych tytułów opartych na statycznych zasobach.

Choć demo oferuje podstawowy poziom z niewyraźnymi przeciwnikami i ograniczonym czasem gry, pokazuje potencjał AI w przyszłym tworzeniu gier.

Ten krok podkreśla ambicje Microsoftu, by zrewolucjonizować gaming dzięki sztucznej inteligencji, łącząc nostalgię z najnowszymi technologiami. Dobrze znany Quake II z niepowtarzalnymi i zawsze unikalnymi lokacjami i mapami? AI to już potrafi.
