Did you know that #invisibility cloaks are #real?

From the 2nd c's Cap of Hades to #Marvel 's Invisible Woman, magic that renders one #invisible is a common theme in #mythology & #scifi.

In 2006, #theoretical #physicist John Pendry figured out that light could be bent around an object so that it renders it invisible.
This led to many advancements in metamaterial science, known as 'metamaterial cloaking'.

I've enjoyed this talk by Pendry: youtube.com/watch?v=VO6IrynhjK [start: 4:43min]

My name is (unknown), and I'm a #student at the University of NC at Chapel Hill. I'm a physicist (well, not exactly but soon🫠) and a music producer. My field of study is #theoretical #Physics and #quantum mechanics, although I'm still learning QM. I'm also interested in #philosophy #climate science, and physics. I'm obsessed with The Expanse, science fiction, and #mars. I've been diagnosed with severe #ADHD and #anxiety.

This post was accepted by the high council itself. #introduction

Migrated to sciences.social and lost my #introduction, so:

I’m a #computational #social #scientist, primarily interested in #theoretical #models, #statistical models based on theory, and #history. Applications mostly in #international #conflict and international #order.

My wife Kristen and I are based in #Oslo, #Norway while I’m on sabbatical this year. We love to #travel and try new #cuisines, and I love to read to and play #math #games with our 6-year-old daughter.

My #introduction keywords: #academic #evolution #cooperation #ecology

I'm a #postdoc specialising in evolutionary and ecological modelling at #NUS #Singapore currently working on #theoretical #models for the evolution of cooperation, in collaboration with Hisashi Ohtsuki, at #SOKENDAI, #Japan.

Previous work: estimating undetected #extinctions, #qualitativemodelling, migratory #phenology, #foodweb #modelling, local #adaptation, #carryover effects, #dispersal.
