new song today! OR: in which Rachel goes full darkwave. this is also maybe the second time that I've put my voice at the center of a longer song. I don't really know who I'm channeling on vocals here, exactly - maybe my best attempt at David Gahan with a touch of Tim Bowness? idk 😂

Apparently today is #MusiciansDay? That's cool.

If you'd like an #introduction to my music, here's my most popular song. :)

I tend toward retro-tinged #FolkMusic, but my tastes are eclectic, and I hope it shows. Themes of #MentalHealth, #politics, and #spirituality come up often in my songs.

I love connecting with other #queer, #trans, #disabled, #MixedRace, and kind folks here, so please reach out!

Thanks to the #MutualAid community on TikTok, my partner, our two cats, and I are able to leave the extended stay hotel we’ve been struggling to stay sheltered in, and now have an #RV to call home.
I’ve started a playlist with RV-based content as a positive turn-around to hopefully come back from this #depression and share our experiences:

As a #disabled #queer #artist who makes #AltRock music, art, and does other projects to earn a living, I’d sincerely appreciate any support; especially through streaming my music, getting merch or custom art from me, and supporting ( @magicalgrrrl ) my partner’s music and merch.
I currently have a children’s #storybook that I wrote and illustrated, on hold for (self)publication. It is a family-friendly book about my experiences with #homelessness stemming from childhood #abuse from the perspective of a cat.
I’m also slowly but surely working on an #autobiography about my experiences being #ActuallyAutistic with #CPTSD in hopes of reaching other people with similar stories. #Trauma and #HealingTrauma is also the main point of my music.
If you decide to check out the music, get some art, or some merch, thank you!!
You can find it all here:

Please boost to help my family get a car!

Hi, my partner @magicalgrrrl and I are homeless, autistic with other disabilities, and trans with two cats. We are artists, fundraising to get a vehicle so we can go to a transgender sanctuary state to try getting back on our feet.

We each make music, and have merch available. I take digital art commissions, which are 50% off all of February, and I’m working on 2 books (an autobiography & a family/kids’ book).

Any contribution towards our efforts means the world right now, as we are searching for hope for our future. I keep everything in my hyperfollow. If you decide to support in any way, thank you.

The Pink and Black has been a work the Dog Park Dissidents have been building since 2017, with each EP taking their lyrical and musical styles to new places and refining their performance. It was released in 2023, and has had an influence on discourse and queer culture online and in the US, even if you didn't realize it.

Their most famous single, "Queer as in Fuck You" is about reclaiming radical queer liberation from the co-opting and pacifying of the movement.

It ends with its thesis statement that is an earworm:
"Not gay as in happy, but queer as in fuck you." As they chant it, raising the volume and screaming it out, audiences can't help but feel the power and join in.

The lyrics of the song are about rejecting the neoliberal recapture of the gay lib movement. During the late 00s and 10s, money and resources were poured into the Human Rights Campaign and other nonprofits that focused on marriage equality and hate crime laws to the exclusion of all else. The result were politics that emphasized assimilation and tossed anyone who wasn't white, cis, and middle class under the bus.

"Since I can file taxes with a same-gender spouse,
I shouldn't feel so bad getting kicked out of my house."

"You want to celebrate a gay man on your cable TV,
While trans lesbians of color dig in garbage just to eat."

This is the problem. This is how those that captured the movement and messaging for more than decade failed us and why many of them are betraying us now.

"Don't sell me a rainbow,
Your market's never done shit for me"

This is the core problem: neoliberalization is the process by which we replace community, solidarity, and actual governance with market logics, consumerism, and privatization of public goods. This is what Pride became and the markets that we've let take over our movement orgs are the problem.

"I don't want to be equal.
'Cause I know I'm fuckin' better than you.
Your moderation is lethal.
Get out of my way, let me do what I need to."

Let this ethos give you power - moderation and assimilation has been killing us. Every queer person I know is so fucking amazing, beautiful, and powerful beyond what I used to think was possible. Take pride in us and let's fucking do what we need to do.

And remember, the only colors we really "need are the pink and the black."
