I've never been on X or FB or Insta or Ticktock etc.
But i love Mastodon! I love that it's not algorhythm controlled, that it doesn't collect and sell my data, that it's not owned by some creep billionaire. I love how I can make my OWN decisions on what type of content I see and don't see, curating my own feed.
I had NO idea how to use #Mastodon when I joined, but by reading/watching a few brief tutorials I found it not difficult. Don't expect to learn how to use it in one day. Don't expect everyone to explain every single thing to you- watch a couple of short tutorials for beginner users... it's not that hard, and if me an old boomer can do it, so can you! Welcome, friend!

1 - Write an intro post (and pin it)! #introduction

2 - Populate your account before you start following people. I always follow back, but empty profiles make me feel sus.

3 - Hashtags, hashtags, hashtags. Use 'em, follow 'em and search with them. It's how you find the good stuff.

4 - Follow, then source the people that your favorite folks engage with. That way, you enter into a network of people.

I’m accepting the helping hand from the Birdman to make better use of my Mastodon profile. Although the site is very slow from all the action right now, I much rather be a part of this community, instead of the capitalist’s network full off hate. It’s turned in to a place where one man’s shifting ideas have reel life consequences for millions of people!
When people can’t rely on getting critical real-time weather and news updates, Twitter will loose it’s relevance. Full off bots, hateful people calling themselves: anti-feminists, anti-woke, anti-everyone that’s not like them, along conspiracy theorists spreading their fabricated proof’s, while not acccepting real science, it’s becoming too much.
The upside to Twitter is: I know how it works, and have many amazing people I love to interacting with there.
I just don’t love you have to pay for “free speech”.

Bare with my ignorance while I try to work out how this really works.
