Woo! More kid digital-life drama over the weekend. This time it's all about how often it is ok to ring and call people.

The youngest one has only had a phone for a month, and one of his friends has sent over 300 texts and tried to call almost as many times. So obvs. my kid is getting frustrated with it.

Chatted to the friends parent about it, and they have promised to talk to their little digital social-butterfly. Awesome!

Then found out that mine has done something similar to a different friend!!!

I guess that his annoyance at the one friend mass texting him is a good way to teach him how his other friend feels when he does it, but jeeby creeby! #Kids break my brain!

How have other #parents addressed this at home? Tips and anecdotes are always welcome!

This morning I woke up and checked my email from my phone. Some emails, some newsletters I never subscribed to. Went for breakfast, listened to some news on pay TV and was greeted by ads. Drove my car and the integrated Android Automotive navigator showed sponsored activities en route. Arrived and walked for 20 minutes, passing buses full of ads and billboards. Read some news on my phone and even with a blocking DNS, I saw various ads. Later, went shopping, needless to say, I was submerged in ads. Meanwhile, four or five calls from spammers, obviously. Got home and nearby, a car with a megaphone advertising a circus. While dining, watched some YouTube videos. Ads now outweigh content. Opened Facebook, sponsored content is more than my friends' posts. Opened Mastodon and... nothing, no ads, just content. Not sure if I should be moved or bewildered, but one thing's clear: from dawn to dusk, we're continuously bombarded with ads. Or perhaps we're being profiled and becoming even more a part of the system. Can this really sustain or are we hitting saturation, where this bombardment doesn't achieve its aim but pushes us to reject?

:star_ms: Syncthing - brilliant little piece of software that lets you synchronize files between devices in a highly customizable way. The greatest use by far is moving photos and other files between my phone and my computer. I've always had issues with using cables or bluetooth for that, and I highly dislike using an online drive as an intermediary. Caution: syncing frequently edited files might lead to sync errors.

:star_ms: RSS feeds - they helped wean me off social media a bit and let me easily keep up with many blogs, fb pages, news, and other content sources without distractions; I started with Feedly, went through a few free options, and I'm now seeing if I can stick with Inoreader for a longer period of time, and if so I will likely get a Pro version because of its many awesome features
