trashloveNever mind the thrift flop bollocks, here's a FAST FASHION FLIP! 🧵<br> <br> This is a completely restored sequined bag I got from a fleamarket for a couple of euros.<br> <br> The bag, originally from Zara, was poorly stitched together and none of the inside seams were finished.<br> <br> The flimsy frayed satin lining had so much static cling, it was icky to touch. So were the ugly plastic handles. 😬<br> <br> The bag also couldn't be washed because of the cardboard uh... "interfacing".<br> <br> The nasty foam plastic material inside reminded me of meat trays. Ew!<br> <br> The whole interior needs to go in the trash!<br> <br> Let's sew! 🧙‍♀️<br> <br> First I completely restitched the bag's sequined exterior, cut off the fraying excess material and finished all seams with a short zigzag stitch.<br> <br> Then I carefully washed it by hand. Sequins get surprisingly dirty over time and after the wash, they sparkled like brand new!<br> <br> Meanwhile I made a new lining and straps from thick and sturdy bridal satin leftovers.<br> <br> I stitched the new straps onto the seam allowance by going back and forth several times to secure them firmly in place before folding it over.<br> <br> Because satin is so slippery, I had to stitch the seam allowance down before pinning it to the outer bag.<br> <br> Then I attached the lining by hand with tiny stitches.<br> <br> The handles stitched to the sturdy lining won't put strain on the sequined material, which makes this bag last a long time.<br> <br> So happy with the neat finish! 🎉<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/sewing?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#sewing</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/refashion?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#refashion</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/diy?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#diy</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/thriftflip?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#thriftflip</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/thrifting?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#thrifting</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/handmade?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#handmade</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/sewingtutorial?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#sewingtutorial</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/sewingtips?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#sewingtips</a>
trashloveAnother bag I made from a thrifted scarf.<br> <br> It's so easy, it's almost self-explanatory. The ends with the fringe are cut off to make the bag, the middle part of the scarf is used for the handles.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/sewing?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#sewing</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bags?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bags</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/upcycling?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#upcycling</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/handmade?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#handmade</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/thriftflip?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#thriftflip</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/disabledartist?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#disabledartist</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/queerartist?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#queerartist</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/thrifting?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#thrifting</a>
Agas Ramirez<p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ThriftFlip" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ThriftFlip</span></a> for an awarding ceremony I attended for work. The dresses cost 18 USD and the outfit took me 2 nights to make. I used a pattern from a local designer for the top and the skirt is self-drafted. I was a bit apprehensive about wearing this to a fancy event at Marriott but it turned out okay, all seams intact! <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sewing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SustainableFashion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SustainableFashion</span></a></p>
