Anyone who is blind, or who has worked with the blind, knows how expensive our technology can be. This couldn't be more true with relation to braille displays. Even the cheapest costs at least $799, and it's already behind the newest in that line, at $899. This is the Orbit Reader 20 and 20+. Now, a student in India wants to change that by creating a display that is truly affordable (under $50)! Please pass this on, so that we can give him greater recognition within the blind community. Even if it costs a bit more than he initially suspected it would, there is no excuse for the $2,000 to $5,000 average price of such technology when cheaper alternatives can be designed! He is determined to bring this to market, so let's help him do it and show our appreciation for his hard work on this life-changing project!
I think I've found my alter ego in the Discworld: Ponder Stibbons (Cogite Stibon in French)
Otherwise, Australia, er.... XXXX, it's really a very weird place

It's the last day of sunshine!
So I'm taking the opportunity to start reading The Last Continent
I want to give #Mastodon a proper go this time, but it's hard to connect with people when no-one follows you, and hashtags only get you so far.
So, if you like one of the hashtags below, please consider following me, and if you do, I'll follow you back! Thank you.
The Free People’s Village is one of the most punk rock books I’ve ever read! Just look at this gorgeous cover
Spec Fic (alternative timeline), activism, music, love, and young people trying to change the world.
It was more tragic than I expected but hopeful in the end.
The book is strongly anti-capitalist and anti-colonial with an emphasis on community, activism and direct action. Lots of LGBTQ+ characters.
A new independent publisher for the fediverse! @nybooks joined last week (h/t to @feditips for letting us know). Here’s their review of historian Catherine Hall’s “Lucky Valley: Edward Long and the History of Racial Capitalism.” [Story may be paywalled]

[The Oblivion Crisis]

Today, we're reading about the Oblivion Crisis, which were the events that took place during The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. This is a perfect book to read after yesterday's On Oblivion for reasons you'll figure out once you listen to it
This book is available in TESV: Skyrim, which makes sense. It was written between Oblivion and Skyrim, with details that would be known to the Hero of Kvatch, but not to a historian trying to put the events together afterwards without access to them
Oh, and I also adjusted some things and I'm more expressive than ever
As always, tell me what you liked, what you didn't like, and maybe even what you want me to read next

Decided I'm going to spend the day browsing ebooks on Project Gutenberg since it's way less stressful than paying attention to the mess of US politics
Just ordered "The Disposessed" by Ursula K Le Guin.
I have fallen in love with the art by Muhammad Fatchurofi who made the cover of this 50th anniversary edition.
Also I think highly of Ursula K Le Guin which I discovered with my interest in Solarpunk.
Looking forward to this book.
