When the 'international community' suggests a 'land for peace' deal (as may be likely part of Trump's 'negotiation' for peace in the Ukraine), its worth pointing out what that might if it was translated into our own country.

Here are two countries that might interest you in that regard; I cannot see either agreeing to give up 20% of their territory, can you?... but that's what international power disparities look like!

However the dismemberment of USAID plays out (maybe some aspect will be absorbed into the State Dept?) & whatever one thinks of the conduct of the agency, the withdrawal from its activities will likely leave a vacuum that China will see to fill with its own development agency (colloquially ChinaAID).

He may not care, but if you wanted an example of how to dissipate 'soft power' quickly, this looks like a textbook case.

Conditions such as autism are poorly researched in low- and middle-income countries, but as interest in studying them grows, so do worries about “parachute” research. This is where investigators from affluent countries collect data from vulnerable populations without the participation of local researchers, leaving without sharing their insights with local communities.

@thetransmitter’s Linda Nordling writes more about this.

Seemingly great news that former U.S. national security officials have held secret meetings with prominent Russian diplomats to discuss a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine.

"On the agenda were some of the thorniest issues in the war in Ukraine, like the fate of Russian-held territory that Ukraine may never be able to liberate and the search for an elusive diplomatic off-ramp that could be tolerable to both sides."

"...the very brutal nature of the #invasion is its essence: the #war #crimes are the point. #Russia claims to be a powerful “pole” in the world to balance the west – but has failed to create a successful political model others would want to join. So it has nothing left to offer except to drag everyone down to its own depth"
