A ‘US-MADE iPHONE’ IS PURE FANTASY

Just as well for Tim “I gave Donnie a million bucks” Cook that his good buddy Trump has cancelled the tariffs on iPhones from China (no connection at all between that reversal and Timmie’s donation, no sir…), because he couldn’t start making his overpriced fanboi hardware in the USA any time soon. Or ever.

One thing that would be nice to add is to automatically get the current city/state. I'm in Rochester enough that simply leaving "Rochester, NY" hardcoded and hand-editing the few times I need to is plenty easy, but it's always fun to automate more things.

I tried this (github.com/fulldecent/coreloca) but I and others have found that in recent macOS versions, it asks you to allow it access to location services, but never shows up in the menu to allow that.

I also saw this option (benward.uk/blog/macos-location) using macOS shortcuts, and I tried his shortcut, but I get the error `zsh: killed shortcuts run getCoreLocationData`.

Oh, also: I can't plug it into my Mac & forgo "pairing" (or whatever the fuck they call it) to just let it charge while keeping it at hand & not having to bring the wallwart charger to the table, because then both laptop & phone go into a fugue state where they just keep spawning dialog boxes until the heat death of the universe, no matter how many time you click "Cancel" on them... 🙄🙄🙄

HelvedeJW Prince of CPH, Radicalized (@jwcph@helvede.net)This is getting fucking ridiculous... I just had to do a fucking search for "How to switch off iPhone 14" AND I'M STILL NOT SURE TO TURN THE FUCKING THING OFF!! 🤯🤬 I guess "using the same button you used to turn the fucking thing on" is too complicated for the Cupertino Brain Trust. "User friendly" my aching ass 😩 #Apple #iphone #ux

Privacy reminder! Have you disabled AirDrop yet?

One of the most innocuous features enabled on millions of iPhones is also one of the most dangerous for those seeking to protect their privacy in public. Apple's AirDrop protocol uses trivially bypassed security measures that authorities like the Chinese government have openly bragged about cracking to identify users since at least 2022.

You should assume that any device with AirDrop enabled is constantly broadcasting your name, email address, and phone number to everyone around you, even if you have it set to "Contacts Only." Apple has known about this flaw since 2019 and has not issued any fix.

Another Smart(TM) decision by #Apple: What used to be Siri language settings have become Siri language setting, because you can no longer set it per device. Now I have to choose between having working music playback with voice recognition OR functional navigation in CarPlay. Apple really needs to start talking to non-English-speaking, non-US users now and then before deciding what is best for All Users(TM).

Altes WiFi iPad sicher nutzen.
