Not much is known about Mother George, a #black and #indigenous #transgender woman who was an early settler of the Grays Lake area of #idaho
She was known to be a midwife who delivered over 1000 babies in the mid to late 1800s.
After her death, her #trans status was discovered.

"On February 7, about a dozen masked men, some of them carrying AR-15 semi-automatic rifles, drove a U-Haul truck to a freeway overpass at Lincoln Heights’ edge. The men, dressed in black, shouted racist slurs and waived black flags with red swastikas on them. Enraged Lincoln Heights residents soon approached to counter protest. Local police who converged on the scene from the nearby town of #Evandale, across the highway, appeared cordial toward some of the white supremacists. As the crowd of Lincoln Heights residents swelled, the ultra rightists got back on their truck and drove off. Counter protesters burned the Nazi flags left behind."

Recently, I've started to pay more attention to the #lyricists and other personnel listed on the #music I listen to, and I am learning about a vast pool of #musicians I've never heard of. For example, many of the songs on #BonnieRaitt 's first album were written by #Black people. Can the industry do a better job of acknowledging everyone's contributions? Maybe #DJ s should mention songwriters and soloists when announcing #bands and #vocalists ?

Sometimes non-native speakers of English see certain phrases, such as "Imma be," being used by native speakers, and assume this is just modern English slang, available to anyone. But many of these usages are specifically #AAVE (African American Vernacular English), and if you are not #Black and you use these, you might be criticized for #CulturalAppropriation. The mistake is of course an innocent mistake, but that doesn't mean you aren't accountable at all. When you learn that a particular phrase (such as "Imma be") is AAVE and are called out, apologize, say you didn't know, and stop using it. Don't become defensive and try to argue that it's okay for you to use it because [reasons].
