I had trouble importing instagram content into Pixelfed. Only a few posts were being imported.
But I found the problem and now the solution. Turns out IG downloads some content as .jpg, some other as .webp. No idea why. Only .jpg is imported to Pixelfeld.
Here's the solution, if others encounter the same problem:
1/3
- When you download from IG, select you want "some of your information" and select only "content"
- open the zipped file
- find the file called "posts_1.json" and find and replace all ".webp" with ".jpg"
- find the folder "posts" with your pictures
- manually change the names of every .webp file, so that the name is the same but the ending becomes .jpg (painful stuff, I know)
2/3
- re-zip, but be careful to do so keeping the same folder structure: if you extract the folder and re-zip, it will create a step more in the directories. When opening the zip file it shuld show directly the folders media and activity, not another folder with your user name.
- import into Pixelfed.
Hope this works. Feel free to reach out if something is unclear.
