Anarkitty
I don't know about you guys but when I was a kid I was just genuinely completely disinterested in my peers, I was very much living up to the 'self-absorbed' etymology of the word autism, and still do in some ways though I've managed to train myself to be a bit more caring and interested in other people now. I don't wanna pretend I was never selfish and annoying I just think I shouldn't be pathologized and persecuted for it lol

#autism

Anarkitty
I feel like there's a strong urge among neurodiversity advocates to reinterpret every autistic symptom to be really prosocial in order to make us more palatable. Like "Infodumping is about bonding", maybe sometimes it is. Sometimes it also happens because we're simply more fixated on some topic than on other people in that moment. Sometimes we're just airing out thoughts and honestly just don't think so much of the recipient, and don't think so much of the social content of what we say.
#autism

Anarkitty

Anarkitty
Steve Silberman's "Neurotribes" was my first introduction to the history of autism but as the years have passed and I've adopted an increasingly more psychiatry critical perspective I can now see how the book ends up actually obscuring a lot of that history in favor of legitimizing the current diagnostic status quo. This short article digs into it very well:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1369848616300954?via%3Dihub

#autism #antipsychiatry
